Dec 2011 Mark Squires 89 Drink: 2011 – 2019
The 2010 “Virgo” (or “virgin,” referencing purity, it says) is a blend of 42% Aragonez, 27% Trincadeira, 21% Syrah and 10% Alicante Bouschet. It was aged in a mixture of new and old oak for 10 months, with only 40% of the juice being in oak the entire time. Sweet and crisp at the same time, this has a very elegant mid-palate, although not a lot of fleshy concentration. With some intensity and power on the finish, it shows a serious side, the power nicely balanced by the pure –yes, it’s namesake mission accomplished–and lovely fruit. This is very elegant, a bit invigorating and utterly charming. There were 30,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2019.
